John is self-trained and became a fulltime artist after some years in the printing industry in Watford. Beginning as a botanical artist and flower painter, John won 2 Gold Medals from the Royal Horticultural Society for his plant paintings and was the first Vice-President of the Society of Botanical Artists. His main work has been illustrating natural history books on Trees, Mushrooms and Wildlife. He now paints a wide range of subjects, still including flowers, cats of all types and other animals. He has written and illustrated "The Artist's Guide", an instructional book on all the major art techniques
